We’re delighted to have James Tatum back at sea View Art Barn running a series of his highly popular weekend workshops in 2026.
Not only is James an incredibly talented artist but he is a fantastic teacher and students benefit from that wonderful mix of extensive technical knowledge and artistic energy.
His workshops are aimed at developing students to see like an artist – to see the world as shapes, not objects – focusing rather on tones and the relationships between shapes and forms. He also encourages an element of chance and risk, through which new possibilities for painting are discovered.
As he says, “For me, painting is a celebration of mystery. It’s the wisdom of uncertainty and insecurity. The asking of questions without answers. It values imagination over reason. The fiction that points towards the truth.”
